The Yolo County region produces some of the best farm fresh produce in America. With such amazing fruits and vegetables being grown right in our own backyard, it’s no wonder there are so many farmers markets nearby. These markets feature affordable produce, meats and dairy items straight from local farms. Most produce is certified organic and pesticide free and is a healthy alternative to what you can buy at the supermarket. They even take CalFresh and WIC. Find your nearest farmers market and get fresh this summer!
At local farmers markets, you can purchase an assortment of fruits like strawberries, oranges, apricots, grapefruits and persimmons. You will also find vegetables like peppers, squash and tomatoes this time of year. You can even find flowers, herbs and seeds from farmers to start your own garden. To get everything on your shopping list, many vendors offer fresh baked goods, bread, eggs, milk, meats, homemade candies and more!

What to Bring
Most vendors will offer you bags, but you should bring your own canvas or paper bags to cut down on plastic. Bring a backpack or a small cart to carry your food. Often the farmers market association will provide an ATM. While some vendors take credit cards, it’s best to bring cash. Some vendors will let you haggle on price, especially if you are cash-in-hand.
